LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL’S DIGEST
The Field Act requires the Department of General Services to supervise the design and construction of any school building or, if the estimated cost exceeds $100,000, the reconstruction or alteration of or addition to any school building, to ensure that plans and specifications comply with the rules and regulations adopted pursuant to the act and with relevant building standards, and to ensure that the work of construction has been performed in accordance with the approved plans and specifications. Existing law defines “school building” for these purposes and excludes from that definition certain buildings.
This bill would also exclude from the definition of school building for purposes of those requirements any building that is built by a school district or under a joint-use agreement with a school district for the purpose of housing teachers and school district employees.
The people of the State of California do enact as follows:
SECTION 1.
Section 17283.5 is added to the Education Code, to read:
17283.5.
“School building” as used in this article excludes a building that is built by a school district or under a joint-use agreement with a school district for the purpose of housing teachers and school district employees.
