Relative to World Asthma Day.

WHEREAS, Asthma affects millions of Californians, with some communities across the state facing disproportionate rates due to poor air quality, environmental exposures, and limited health care access; and

WHEREAS, Communities throughout California face environmental burdens, including wildfire smoke, vehicle emissions, industrial pollution, and agricultural operations, that worsen asthma outcomes; and

WHEREAS, Asthma is a leading cause of school absences, emergency room visits, and hospitalizations across California, particularly among children and low-income communities; and

WHEREAS, Communities of color, farmworker families, and other vulnerable populations statewide experience higher rates of asthma-related illness and death; and

WHEREAS, World Asthma Day, observed the first Tuesday in May, raises global awareness about asthma prevention, management, and research; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, That the Senate recognizes the Central California Asthma Collaborative for its work in education, advocacy, and community health programs that serve as a model for asthma care across the state; and be it further

Resolved, That the Senate affirms its commitment to improving air quality standards and enforcement throughout California; and be it further

Resolved, That the Senate supports programs for asthma education, home-based interventions, and health care access in underserved communities statewide; and be it further

Resolved, That the Senate encourages schools and health care providers across California to adopt evidence-based asthma management practices; and be it further

Resolved, That the Senate urges state and local agencies to address environmental justice factors that drive asthma disparities in communities throughout California; and be it further

Resolved, That the Senate promotes community-based participatory research to better understand and address asthma triggers across the state’s diverse regions and populations; and be it further

Resolved, That the Senate recognizes May 5, 2026, as World Asthma Day; and be it further

Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the author for distribution.
