LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL’S DIGEST
Existing law grants the Board of Parole Hearings the power to grant parole to prisoners.
This bill would, if an inmate has a prior conviction for a sexually violent offense, as defined, require the board to consider the results of a comprehensive risk assessment for sex offenders in considering parole.
The people of the State of California do enact as follows:
SECTION 1.
Section 3053.9 is added to the Penal Code, to read:
3053.9.
If an inmate has a prior conviction for a sexually violent offense, as defined in subdivision (b) of Section 6600 of the Welfare and Institutions Code, the board shall consider the results of a comprehensive risk assessment for sex offenders in considering parole.
